Top 10 Holiday Parks

Our Responsible Tourism Care Code

We understand that all businesses create environmental and social impact through their activities. Ours is no exception. We, at Whangarei Top 10 Holiday Park, work hard to support our environment by undertaking a number of actions. Many of these you will not see, but some you may notice.

We have developed the following environmental policy which is based on a commitment to improving our environmental performance across all areas of our business practice. Our sustainability will be an ongoing journey which will improve with time and experience, and we welcome your support and feedback regarding this initiative.

We undertake to:

  • reduce our demand on energy by:
installing low energy light bulbs in at least 80% of our premises
using energy-efficient timers and motion sensor equipment on exterior and interior lighting
replacing hot water storage cylinders with an on-demand hot water supply, using gas califonts
offering you a towel and linen change agreement, to reduce energy and water use
buying products locally to reduce transport emissions
choosing energy-efficient models when we upgrade appliances
offering local walking and cycling guides to local attractions
  • reduce our waste by:

giving you the opportunity to recycle your rubbish
reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, by separating it for recycling
offering composting facilities for organic waste
purchasing products with minimal and preferably biodegradable packaging, buying in bulk, and using returnable containers where possible
offering online options for daily news
printing necessary emails only, using recycled paper

  • conserve water by:

installing devices in taps and shower heads to reduce water volume
installing dual flush toilets, and sensors on urinals
    using mulch on our gardens

  • reduce pollution by:

using biodegradable and non-toxic cleaning products and systems (Ha Ra products and systems)
installing timers on exterior lighting, for less disturbance at night
sourcing and purchasing our products locally, to reduce carbon emissions from transport
regularly tuning our vehicles to reduce carbon emissions
choosing a local Printing Company, which uses sustainable practices (vegetable inks and recycled paper), for our printed brochures

  • encourage conservation by:

supporting wildlife conservation by contributing annually to the Whangarei Native Bird Recovery Centre
planting native trees and shrubs, to encourage birdlife and reduce the need for irrigation
offering guests the opportunity to experience our natural environment by informing and encouraging them to take a bush walk in the city's largest Scenic Reserve, which directly adjoins our property.

  • participate in our local community by:

donating supplementary products or furniture to local charities and schools
making land available for the establishment of a local Transition Towns Community Garden
contributing a portion of profits to the upkeep of the Community Garden
sponsoring local initiatives; like the BMX club's annual competition, and Telecom For Schools
volunteering at a local school to support its Literacy Support Programme for low progress readers
    buying locally produced art
always offering employment to local residents first
encouraging our staff to commit to our environmental practices
