Whangarei in Northland New Zealand is a fantastic place to holiday – and, it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to see the beauty of our region. With stunning beaches and beautiful walks close by to our Whangarei TOP 10 Holiday Park accommodation, you will have plenty of great free outdoor activities to keep you busy. Or, you can relax and do nothing!


Great Walks

Northland Beaches
Whangarei district boasts, literally, 100 beaches and bays! Some are just a short drive from Whangarei TOP 10 Holiday Park, others are secluded and ‘secret’ – but we’ll share. Read more


Whangarei Native Bird Recovery Centre
Right next to the Whangarei Museum & Heritage Park is the Native Bird Recovery Centre. Admission is free, and here you can see the injured and endangered birds who are visiting this unique aviary – from magnificent albatross to the cheeky New Zealand fantail.


Longview Estate
Northland is the birthplace of winemaking in New Zealand, and boasts some of the country’s top vineyards. Longview Estate, just a 15 minute drive from our holiday park, is a must-visit. This picturesque boutique vineyard and winery delights with stunning views over the entire Whangarei Harbour and daily tastings and sales of their wines – from chardonnays and gewurzt’ to cabernet sauvignons, merlots and more.


Children’s Playgrounds
A short walk through the bush from our Whangarei TOP 10 Holiday Park is Mair’s Park playground. The Town Basin also boasts one of the area’s biggest adventure playgrounds, plus, Farmer’s Car Park playground is great too.


The Kauri Clock Factory
The showroom displays over 3500 Unique individually crafted swamp Kauri clocks (up to 50,000 years old) as well as the many other hand crafted kauri products. Open Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, Sat/Sun 9am-4pm. They also run guided factory tours for groups of 5 or more.


Quarry Gardens
Extensive, picturesque gardens and walkways developed in an old quarry site. Walkways link with trails in the Coronation Scenic Reserve. Open 8am-5pm daily, donations appreciated.


Botanica Whangarei – Fernery, Conservatory and Cacti House
New Zealand’s largest public collection of native ferns. Conservatory contains tropical plants and vibrant flower displays. Open 10am- 4pm.

Abbey Caves
You can see stalagmites, stalactites and glow worms in extensive undeveloped caves. The caves are four kilometres from here and are known for there abundance of glow-worms, and fascinating limestone formations. Exploring the caves will take approximately two to three hours.

Mountain Biking in Glenberbie Forest
Glenbervie Mountain Biking is a mountain bike area situated within the Glenbervie Forest, approx 10min from the city. There are 37 trails from grades 2-5+. There are maps available from the i-site and local bike shops or check out the website.
